Getting Ready for the Art Show

The Vikings and I have a show to put on at Undergrounds Coffehaus! You can follow the saga- RSVP to the art show, befriend the Vikings and the 'haus, at facebook.com/sfyarnvikings. The short version- April 23, Saturday Night, 8:00- Viking Themed art show, "Wenches and Warriors:  A Viking Voyage".

I have to design a poster, and I'm contributing a painting. With any luck, I'll make some headway on both this weekend.

New Book!

(Haldo again, by the way.)

This is the newest edition to our Viking library.
Medieval Garments Reconstructed- Norse Clothing Patterns

We're a pretty silly lot, but always interested in learning about more authentic Viking history and culture. This book is a treasure trove for sure. Patterns are based on recreations of extant garments. There are several tunics and hoods that I can't wait to try out. It also gives some great background on fabrics and technique.

First, though, I'd like to give this viking apron pattern a go. I just bought some turtle brooches at Tomas The Lapidary's FlaRf tent, and I need something to wear them on. With my braids and a getup like this, I think I'll look much more Wagnerian. Just need to find some fabric and decide on a color!

Safe sailing,
Hilde Yarnsen

A Successful Faire Season!

Haldo!

My name is Hilde, and if you've met me or my family, you'll remember me as the viking who carries a giant spoon. You probably ran into us at the Florida Renaissance Festival in the past month. My plunder ( a group of vikings is a plunder, like a group of crows is a murder) is pretty new to the festival circuit, but the last few weeks have been a great adventure. We've heard a lot of great music and got some great photos, mostly courtesy of the fabulous Starwind Evensong (she's a more established viking, and helping show us the ropes). You can check out some of our recent travels at our facebook page, facebook.com/sfyarnvikings.

The Festival may be over for another year, but the vikings still have plenty on plates- and in our tankards. We've got an art show coming up April 23 (calling all artists and crafters who want to lend a hand!) and we're working on starting up an etsy store to sell some of our wares. Keep an eye on us this year- we hope to vend at Camelot Days in the fall, and we'll be posting about our progress in tent-making, wardrobe-building, and weapon-smithing all summer.

Let's spin some yarns together!
